The Boulders
Scottsdale

The Boulders is a resort community in the high Sonoran desert on the North Scottsdale/south Carefree border. Elegant homes and villas blend with the magnificent boulder outcroppings and enhance the dramatic scenery created by nature's hand.

The resort and 27 holes of golf opened in 1985. In 1991 nine more holes were added and the two courses became known as North and South. Membership is tied home ownership and availability. FEATURED HOLES

SOUTH COURSE

The 5th hole, a par-5, measuring 545 yards from the blue tees, is one of the more challenging holes. A natural arroyo bisects the fairway, tempting the average golfer to "go for it" and carry the wash, or lay-up with a mid-iron. It plays to a long two-tiered green guarded by deep bunkers on one side and a beautiful boulder outcropping on the other.

NORTH COURSE

Also the 5th hole, this time a par-4 dog-leg left measuring 425 yards. This hole is both long and difficult, and like all good golf holes it is picturesque. It demands accuracy from the tee to the pin. Your landing area from the tee is a narrowing fairway with a stunning backdrop of Black Mountain on the horizon. It doesn't let up on you there. The approach shot to the two-tiered green demands more accuracy due to bunkering, with one particularly large greenside trap.
